The 2009 CA Salary Survey is now available on the CA Source website. The survey is completed every two years. Overall, results are fairly consistent with two years ago. The results are as follows:

- average compensation for a newly designated CA is $72k
- average CA compensation is $187k
- median CA compensation is $127k
(note the mean exceeds the median because the ratio of salary to years designated is higher for senior CAs)
- average compensation for CAs who are partners in firms is $307k
- average compensation for sole proprietors is $168k
- salary increases were highest in the Atlantic provinces
- provinces with the highest paid CAs are Alberta ($214k) followed by Ontario ($192k), although CAs outside of Canada earn the most ($325k)
- average compensation is highest for CAs in industry ($230k), followed by professional services ($161k), not-for-profit ($139k), education ($119k) and then government ($118k)
(note that industry exceeds professional services because firms employed more newly designated CAs)
- 26% of CAs hold board positions

It is a little unsettling to see 26% board membership.

Is it just me, or does anyone else not notice this being true?

A lot of them could be non-profits.

Heck I had multiple board positions in university, and technically sit on one right now. All non-profits of course.
